Track your reading this summer to support native tree planting in our community. Thanks to our friends at Green By Nature - The more you read the more we plant!
For every 100 leaves we earn together we unlock the ability to plant a new tree!
There are a plethora of ways to earn leaves, you get one leaf every time you do one of the following:
- Issue Books - Read 50 Pages or 1 book or Audiobook (equivalent pages) - Review a book - Read aloud to someone
Come into your local Libraries Horowhenua Branch and collect a handful of Community Reading Challenge Read For Trees cards. Simply fill these in every time you complete a book and then drop them off in the collection boxes to add your leaf earning contributions. Beanstack -Are you on the go but want to keep contributing? Track online with Beanstack! Sign up for free and keep track of all your reading activities! Participate in the Read For Trees event and earn badges as you go!
Thanks to our friends at Green By Nature we have a selection of Ngaio, Totara, and Pseudopanax Lessonii trees.
Trees and vegetation not only provide an enjoyable environment for our community and visitors to enjoy but help our environment in many ways. Horowhenua District Council, alongside our maintenance team Green by Nature, are committed to being kaitiaki of open spaces. Our planting programme helps offset the effects of a warming climate due to their cooling properties, supports a biodiverse ecology and provide shade for our tamariki and much, much more.
